MADD Red Ribbon Campaign Supports Safe Driving During the Holidays; Billboard Reminders on Boston Northeast & Southeast Expressways Red Ribbons Available to Public

WARWICK, R.I.--Dec. 15, 1999--In an effort to promote the need for alcohol-free driving during the festive holiday season, MetLife Auto & Home is teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to ask the public to "Tie One On for Safety" during the holidays. Every year, thousands of people across the country die in auto crashes after drinking alcohol - - many of those during the holidays.
"Tie One On for Safety" billboards are now posted on the Northeast and Southeast expressways above the bustling Boston traffic, from which the largest red ribbons of the campaign fly. The Company has also produced Red Ribbon reminders, which are available at all MADD Chapters and MetLife Auto & Home offices in Massachusetts, the Registry of Motor Vehicles, and many local businesses.
"I believe we have the potential to reach many more businesses and public settings," said Executive Director of MADD Massachusetts, Barbara Harrington. Ribbons and boxes can be ordered by calling MADD State headquarters at 1-508-875-3736.
MADD has championed the passage of more than 2,300 anti-drunk driving laws since it was established in 1980, working tirelessly to expose drunk driving as a violent crime. "MetLife Auto & Home is honored to support MADD and the Red Ribbon campaign in Massachusetts," said Vice President of Marketing, John Rutecki. "It's one more way our company can help promote public safety."
