Guaranteed Upgrade on Hertz Rentals Announced by Rail Europe

    WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 3 -- A limited-time offer for a
guaranteed free one car class upgrade on manual transmission Hertz rental cars
in France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden,
Switzerland and the U.K. is available from Rail Europe for those purchasing
stand-alone car rental in those countries or the Italy Rail 'n Drive Pass,
Purchase must be made between January 1 and March 31, 2000, and the car may be
picked up anytime through June 30, 2000.
    This offer guarantees upgrades from Economy to Compact, from Compact to
Intermediate and from Intermediate to Full Size/Premium cars.  It does not
apply to automatic transmission cars.
    The Italy Rail 'n Drive product provides 3 days of unlimited first- or

Canadian per person for two people traveling together.  Additional car and

    Minimum rental period for this guaranteed upgrade offer is 5 days.  The
car must be returned to the same location where it was picked-up.  Booking
must be made in North America at least seven days prior to pick-up.  Standard
European blackout dates apply.
