Detroit 2025: Michelin Explores the FutureDETROIT, Jan. 10 -- It's the new year in the Motor City -- 2025. Jumping in your craft, you hit the free-flowing, multi-tiered streets. Traveling from Cobo Center down Jefferson Avenue among the mirrored-glass buildings now lining the waterfront, you cruise through the city at warp speed. Thanks to Michelin, visitors at the 2000 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) won't have to wait 25 years for the experience. Beginning Jan. 15 and lasting throughout the show, adventure seekers can take an imaginary trip through the streets of Detroit a quarter century from now. "Michelin's 3-D Experience" explores the possibilities and shows what the future could hold in just 25 years -- all through special 3-D glasses and video technology. "The NAIAS show floor is filled with many unique looks into the future of the automotive industry," said Bob Carroll, vice president, marketing, Michelin Automotive Industry Division. "Through 'Michelin's 3-D Experience,' we offer visitors our glimpse of the future while showcasing Michelin's revolutionary new tire technology -- Pax System -- the next step in the evolution of the tire." While looking into the future, Michelin hasn't forgotten the present or past. Throughout its exhibit, Michelin presents over a century worth of innovations, ranging from the first detachable bicycle tire to the first radial tire to today's newest color-enhanced and high-performance tires. Visitors also can participate in an interactive game to test their knowledge of Michelin's history, view the evolution of Michelin's tires and enjoy historical advertising footage featuring The Michelin Man. Michelin manufactures and sells tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles and the space shuttle. Headquartered in Greenville, S.C., Michelin North America employs 27,000 and operates 23 plants in 21 locations.
