Toyota Tundra Pickup Wins Top MotorWeek Award
NEW YORK, Feb. 9 -- Toyota's new Tundra pickup truck has been
awarded two Drivers' Choice Awards by public television's MotorWeek. Not only
was the full-size truck named "Best Pickup Truck," but the Tundra was the
staff's unanimous choice for its "Best of the Year" award, beating out more
than 150 other makes and models of cars and trucks.
"The MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Awards are based on a compilation of
criteria such as product integrity, performance, pricing, value and purpose,"
says John Davis, the show's host and executive producer. "Annually, the
MotorWeek staff locks itself in a war room to review all recent
products... Only one can receive the 'best of the best' award."
    The all-new 2000 Tundra is a full-size, V8-powered pickup truck that is
setting new standards in quality, value and safety features as well as
providing superior acceleration, braking and towing capacity. It is built by
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana in a new $1.2 billion facility in Gibson
County, near the city of Princeton, Ind.
"We're pleased and proud to accept these two awards from the experts at
MotorWeek," said Don Esmond, group vice president and general manager of the
Toyota Division of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "Naturally, we agree that
the Tundra is the best full-size pickup available in North America. But we
were both honored and flattered to be judged the best vehicle overall, in a
field that included luxury and sports cars."

The MotorWeek awards are the latest accolades Tundra has gained since it
went on sale in June of 1999. Others include:
-- "Motor Trend" magazine's "Truck of the Year"
    -- "4-Wheel & Off-Road" magazine's "4x4 of the Year"
-- New England Motor Press Association's "Official Winter Vehicle of New
       England - Best Truck"
