Visteon Technology: Ready for Any LifestyleDETROIT, March 6 With powerful technology that can be customized to meet the demands of almost any lifestyle, Visteon is radically changing the time drivers spend in their vehicles. Products that entertain, provide security and comfort, connect drivers to the outside world, and much more, are on display at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2000 World Congress. Visteon is showcasing several innovative technologies designed to meet the rapidly-changing needs of consumers around the world. "Consumers are increasingly looking to technology to enhance their lifestyle, and to provide conveniences in their vehicles never before possible," said Steve Delaney, Visteon's vice president of interior and exterior systems. "Visteon's mission is to understand consumer expectations and needs, and then design systems and products that help meet these demands." Through revolutionary technology, Visteon offers consumers a variety of ways to personalize their vehicles and stay connected to the world around them: ICES (Information, Communication, Entertainment, Safety and Security System) - Visteon's in-car computing platform. With the use of simple voice commands, ICES provides drivers with access to the Internet where they can check email and obtain real-time information such as news, weather reports and stock prices. ICES also provides access to a turn-by-turn navigation system. Satellite Digital Audio Radio System - provides continuous, cross-country, in-vehicle music, information, and entertainment. A subscription-based service, this technology promises to do for radio what cable television did for TV by linking drivers with up to 100 radio stations at any one time. The system offers superior sound quality on satellite channels, and displays the artist, song title, channel name and channel number. Visteon's Satellite Digital Audio Radio System will be available as an original equipment option in the 2001 model year. Telematics Audio System - combines in-vehicle navigation with the functions of a premium audio system. The system uses voice recognition to provide consumers with the ability to use navigation, audio and cellular phone systems without taking their eyes off the road or hands off the wheel. The single-box solution minimizes component and system costs, reduces diagnostics and manufacturing complexity, while maximizing flexibility for dealer installations and upgrades. Flexible Audio - combines compressed file playback technology and efficient memory storage to give drivers the ability to integrate all sources of audio information for use in their car. Compressed audio files can be either downloaded from the Internet onto a PC or converted from CDs using PC software. Visteon's Flexible Audio System can recognize any disc format, giving drivers the ability to store and enjoy 10 hours of music on just one CD. "As vehicles become more than basic transportation, consumers are seeking to have their vehicles become a natural extension of their lifestyle," said Delaney. "Through Visteon technology, we offer consumers the ability to tailor their vehicle to meet their precise needs." With a global delivery system of more than 125 technological, manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 22 countries, Visteon is leveraging the talents of its 77,000 employees to deliver innovative, consumer-driven systems solutions to its customers.
