4 May 2000
TROY, Mich. - Delphi Automotive Systems announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with M-Xchange.com Inc. to participate as the first equity partner of M-Xchange.com, an online marketplace for minority business entrepreneurs. "We believe this alliance will help Delphi as we continue to develop a strong minority supplier base," Ray Campbell, vice president, Delphi Global Purchasing, said. "Our participation will help us identify strong minority suppliers, enhance our relationships with those suppliers and allow us to promote the development and training of minority entrepreneurs." According to Campbell, Delphi will gain additional experience in the world of Internet-enabled business. Also, the cross-industry nature of M-Xchange.com is expected to help Delphi identify supplier solutions related to its growing non-automotive business. M-Xchange.com, co-founded by former General Motors Executive Roy Roberts and Allied Metals Corporation Owner and President Gary Wasserman, is scheduled to begin facilitating online transactions between automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers and minority suppliers during the third quarter of this year. Roberts is chairman of M-Xchange.com and Wasserman is president. "Having Delphi, the world leader in providing innovative, high-tech solutions to global automotive manufacturers, on board signals the potential value of our portal," said Roberts. "M-Xchange.com will level the playing field for minority companies in the New Economy; partnerships like the one with Delphi will get us there faster." Minority supplier development is a priority business initiative for Delphi. Last year Delphi purchased $460 million of goods and services from minority suppliers, the most of Tier 1 suppliers in the U.S. The Delphi- sponsored Automotive Matchmaker Conference which is held annually and has generated over $83 million in awarded contracts to minority businesses, and the minority business sponsorship program that allows sponsored suppliers and Delphi purchasing to work together on business development are both staples of Delphi's initiative. "Diversity in our workforce, in our customer base and in our supplier base is a priority," Campbell added. "We view M-Xchange.com as a leading minority enterprise marketplace and we view our alliance as a win for Delphi, for the exchange, for minority enterprises and for our customers."
