Protect Your Car from Summer Sun and Heat

25 May 2000

Ultraviolet Rays Can Take Toll on Car's Finish
CHICAGO - Summer marks the peak driving season for family road trips.
But before hitting the pavement, be sure to prepare your car properly. In
addition to the usual safety checks, washing and waxing a car's exterior are
important steps in the summer driving ritual. Just as your skin needs protection
from the sun's rays, a car's finish needs protection in order to prevent
fading and oxidation, which can adversely affect its appearance and resale
value.

"Automotive paint finish is sensitive to sun exposure, as well as
scratches and the unavoidable accumulation of dirt and grime," said Chuck
Tornabene, President of Consumer and Industrial Products for car care leader
Turtle Wax. "The great outdoors is public enemy number one against your car,"
Tornabene added. "Sunlight, air pollution, bird droppings, tree sap and even
bugs can harm the paint's natural brilliance."

Getting a quick jump on exterior car care is easier with new Turtle Wax
Extreme Cleaner Wax, a triple threat that provides cleaning, ultimate shine
and maximum protection, all in one. Extreme Cleaner Wax is designed to cut
through accumulated grime, smooth out swirl marks and leave a car finish
looking like new.

Here is a brief guide for a summer appearance check-up to put you on the
road to a clean, shiny, well-protected car:

-- Waxing: Ideally, wax should be applied when temperatures are between 55
and 85 degrees. The car's finish should be cool to the touch when
starting. Apply Turtle Wax Extreme Cleaner Wax one small section at a
time. Wipe each section carefully with a soft cloth and use even
circular or straight strokes to keep the wax from getting into seams
       and jambs.

-- Examine the car everywhere for scratches and spots. Bugs and unsightly
stains can be a problem on the exterior. A way to clean and add a
protective shield is by using Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover. It removes
bugs, tar, tree sap and road grime, which are common on the road and
can wreak havoc on the appearance of your car.

Turtle Wax, Inc., established more than 50 years ago, is the expert
