Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered in Cumberland County
Vehicle Identification Numbers Etched Onto Vehicle Windows
As a Means of Theft Prevention

CAMP HILL, Pa., May 31 The Pennsylvania Auto Theft
Prevention Authority along with the Cumberland County District Attorney's
Office and the Camp Hill Police Department will be holding a free VIN etching
event on Saturday, June 3, 2000 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event
will be held in the parking lot of the Camp Hill Mall (on the Route 15 side).
VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's
Identification Number (VIN) is etched on to all the vehicle windows. Would-be
thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN etched because that vehicle is
more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to
remove traces of the VIN.
This is a free service provided by the Cumberland County District
Attorney's Office and the Authority. The Authority's staff, local police
officers, and volunteers from local insurance companies will etch vehicles
(weather permitting) on a first-come, first-served basis. The Authority
encourages you to spend some time with them on Saturday morning to help
protect your vehicle.
Pre-event questions about the Authority may be directed to Ken Robinson at
215-485-1636 or 717-975-0812.
