Both Teams in Wheelchairs for Parking Lot Game To Benefit Michigan Athletes Hall of FameROSEVILLE, Mich., - A group of wheelchair basketball all-stars are taking on the employees of Roseville Chrysler Plymouth Wednesday in a match to benefit the new Michigan Athletes With Disabilities Hall of Fame. Admission is free. Both teams will be in wheelchairs for the game, scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. in the store's pre-owned vehicle lot, 25524 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville. The game is part of a broader special event from 4 to 6 p.m. which includes displays of mobility tools to increase life accessibility, as well as to present safety information to minimize injuries. "We want to show the world just how much people with physical 'disabilities' can adapt to so called 'normal' settings and continue to be a strong part of society even after disability injuries," Roseville Chrysler Jeep Superstore owner Mike Riehl said. "Our family believes strongly in community involvement and this is a natural extension of that belief. "The Michigan Athletes With Disabilities Hall of Fame estimates that there are more than a million people with various disabilities in Michigan. That's why we recently added Lisa Flatt, R.N. to our team to show people how best to use conversion vans and other mobility aids," Riehl added. The special event is being directed by Flatt, who specializes in adapting vans and mobility tools for improved transportation. Flatt has assembled a team of organizations for the event, including: * Wright Filippis, supplier of handicapped and medical supplies, * Creative Controls, suppliers of automotive hand controls and wheel chair lock-downs, * Phase Four, supplier of remotes starters and alarms, * Option Care of Troy, providing high-tech home care services, * Roseville Police Department DARE (Drug Awareness Resistance Education) program with its special DARE car, van and officers, * Allstate Insurance, for special insurance needs, and * Roseville Chrysler Plymouth Jeep, with a handicapped conversion van on display. "We plan on having a lot of fun and teaching the public about life with disabilities," Flatt said. "It will be a great opportunity for one-stop education about life with a handicap." Visitors will be able to sit in wheelchairs, the conversion van and talk with experts to learn more about adaptations to physical disabilities.
