Hit and Run: Big Three Auto Makers Attack Marriage, Promote Homosexuality, FRC Says
9 June 2000
Stockholders Urged to Overturn Anti-Family PolicyWASHINGTON - In response to the "Big Three" automakers' announcement yesterday that they will award domestic partner benefits to same-sex couples, Family Research Council's Senior Director of Cultural Studies Robert H. Knight made the following statement: "By offering marital health benefits to homosexual couples, General Motors, Ford and DaimlerChrysler have joined the corporate cultural wrecking crew that seeks to destroy traditional morality. This is a hit-and-run attack on marriage and the natural family, regardless of the corporations' stated motives. "Ford acknowledges that less than one percent of its workforce will sign up for the homosexual program, so they are justifying this immoral policy by saying it won't cost them much. But the moral cost is enormous. The Big Three are telling young people that homosexual behavior is normal, healthy and on a par with marriage. "Given that a huge body of scientific and medical evidence shows that homosexuality is destructive to individuals, families and communities, the auto makers are steering away from compassion and washing their hands of the lethal effects just to please a tiny, vocal group of activists. "The Big Three's plunge into homosexual activism is exceeded only by Subaru, which for several years has openly funded and promoted homosexual activists, including groups such as GLAAD, which characterize Christian conservatives as 'religious political extremists,' and is trying to silence talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger. "Just as Exxon-Mobil reassessed the impact of same-sex-partner benefits and reinforced the marriage standard, the Big Three should count the costs and back away from this disastrous policy change. We urge company stockholders to work to overturn the policy."
