12 June 2000

Rugged Memory Card Will Store WinCE Operating System and Automotive Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - SanDisk Corporation announced today that its CompactFlash storage card has been selected by Visteon Corp. as the storage device in Visteon's new in-vehicle computer system called ICES.

A 64-megabyte (MB) SanDisk CF card will be embedded in the system and will store an automotive version of WinCE and applications used to obtain real time news, stock, weather, traffic reports and other information.

ICES, Visteon's in-car computing system, provides a fully-integrated, voice-activated, mobile computing and multimedia platform. The system consists of an open hardware and software electronics architecture that makes possible a wide variety of features ranging from e-mail and Internet access to emergency calls and turn by turn navigation. Powered by Microsoft Windows CE for Automotive, an Intel(R) Pentium Processor, and with the use of simple voice commands engineered by Visteon Voice Technology(TM), ICES allows drivers to operate such features as mobile communications and audio controls.

Nelson Chan, SanDisk's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said, "Visteon's ICES system is an innovative system that will enhance the automotive experience and allow people to be more productive in their vehicles. By choosing the SanDisk CF card, Visteon has given both SanDisk and CompactFlash a significant vote of confidence."

The new vehicle computer system is currently available in the aftermarket to fleet customers.
