QuickTake Survey Finds July 4th Driving Plans Change Due to Gas Prices

QuickTake Survey Finds Fourth of July Driving Plans Change for Nearly A Third Due to High Gas Prices

WILTON, Conn. - Nearly a third (30 percent) of those who planned to take a
trip over the Fourth of July weekend using their car have changed their plans
because of increasing gasoline prices, according to a QuickTake.com opinion
survey of 500 Internet users.

Of those who have changed their driving plans, 17 percent have altered
their plans to include less driving, seven percent have switched to a vehicle
that uses less gasoline and six percent have canceled their travel plans.

More than 10 percent of consumers indicated they had reduced their driving
when the cost of gasoline reached $1.60. Nearly 40 percent are reducing their
driving as the price approaches $2.00.

Regardless of the reasons for the gasoline price increases, two-thirds
(66 percent) feel they are not at all justified.

"The gasoline prices are also changing consumers' vehicle purchase plans,"
said Mark Hardy, general manager of QuickTake. "Nearly half (49 percent) of
respondents say the increasing gasoline prices have made them think about or
actively seek a more fuel-efficient vehicle to replace the one they drive most
often."
