Philadelphia Charity Receives $25,000 DonationPHILADELPHIA - DaimlerChrysler Corporation is bringing its unconventional 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, the most talked-about new vehicle on the road today, to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia July 29 - August 3. The PT Cruiser and 17 other vehicles are part of the company's product showcase and tribute to the people and communities that make up DaimlerChrysler. The Company will also be donating $25,000 to a local charity. DaimlerChrysler's 35,000 square foot exhibit, located in the Grand Hall of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, demonstrates the Company's deep roots in America, its commitment to the people, products and places that shape the American economy, and its continued investment in the future vitality of this country. "Conventions have played a critical role in American political history and, as a company that has a deep investment in the country's growth and prosperity, DaimlerChrysler is honored to be a part of this tradition," said Robert G. Liberatore, DaimlerChrysler Senior Vice President of External Affairs and Public Policy. "With our sales making up one percent of America's gross domestic product, DaimlerChrysler has an impact on the U.S. economy. Our exhibit reflects our commitment to investing in America as well as providing an opportunity to view the products that are part of this country's economic growth." The DaimlerChrysler exhibit includes current and upcoming Chrysler, Jeep(R), Dodge and Mercedes-Benz vehicles as well as concept vehicles. One of the Company's commercial truck subsidiaries, Freightliner, will also have a display. Highlighting the exhibit is an interactive wall map demonstrating DaimlerChrysler's impact in every state across the U.S. The wall map and other displays in the exhibit provide the impressive numbers behind DaimlerChrysler's commitment to investing in America. These include: -- more than 125,000 employees (union and salaried) receiving more than $8.8 billion in wages; -- supporting an additional 212,000 U.S. jobs in the industry; -- paying more than $583 million in annual state taxes; -- providing contracts to more than 8,500 suppliers around the country totaling more than $38 billion dollars; -- reinvesting more than $10 billion in facilities located in urban centers; and, -- spending $1.5 billion on environmental protection in 1999. "Our numbers tell an impressive story that we feel is important for the delegates, opinion leaders and policy makers of this country to hear," commented W. Frank Fountain, DaimlerChrysler Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and President of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. "Whether from Delaware, Alabama, Texas, Colorado or Washington, D.C., DaimlerChrysler is part of the fabric of these communities and the economic health of this country." Another exhibit will illustrate DaimlerChrysler's philanthropic contributions in the communities in which the company does business. Since its inception in 1953, the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund has given more than $300 million to charitable organizations nationwide. In conjunction with the convention, the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund made a $25,000 contribution to the Good Neighbor Partnership Fund, a non-partisan initiative whose mission is to alleviate poverty among women, children and families in the Philadelphia area. The contribution specifically benefits ASPIRA Inc. of Pennsylvania, an organization dedicated to promoting the welfare and development of Puerto Rican and Latino youth in the Philadelphia area. During the convention week, DaimlerChrysler will host various activities for delegates and guests. Delegate events begin with a Sunday, July 30 gospel brunch honoring the Michigan delegation. The Company will also host delegation events throughout the week for the Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, Ohio, Alabama and Delaware delegations, states that have DaimlerChrysler manufacturing facilities. Governors, senators, representatives and state and local elected officials will attend their state's delegation event.
