J.D. Power Clubs Reaches Out to Former Priceline Gas Cardholders

    SAN FRANCISCO--Oct. 5, 2000--

Offers Free Month of Membership in Carclub.com, Including Discounts on Gasoline That Have Already Saved Members Nearly $1 million

SAN FRANCISCO (Oct. 5, 2000) - For two million consumers affected by Priceline's decision to discontinue its gas card, J.D. Power Clubs is stepping up to offer a month of free membership in Carclub.com, including an easy-to-use card offering ten percent discount on gasoline.
WebHouse Club, a closely held licensee of Priceline.com, Inc., said today it plans to wind down operations in the next 90 days, making its gas card invalid.
"All Priceline customers are invited to join our current Carclub.com members and take advantage of immediate savings on gasoline," said Michael London, chairman and chief executive officer of J.D. Power Clubs. "It's our way of helping restore consumer confidence and trust in eCommerce businesses to deliver on their promises."
With high gas prices continuing to plague America's car owners, Carclub.com, a J.D. Power Club, offers members a five percent discount on gasoline with double the savings (ten percent) for the rest of 2000. The biggest gas savings for consumers on the market yet, Carclub.com launched its Membership and Gas MasterCard(R) Card for savings on every tank of gas six months ago. Already Carclub.com members have saved nearly $1 million on gas purchases.
"This relief from high gas prices exemplifies Carclub.com's commitment to help America's car owners pay less for automotive products and services AND have a better car owning experience," said London. "In fact, we even state it in our members' Bill of Rights: "gas should cost less."
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, gas prices are more than 25 percent higher than they were just one year ago.
"Consumers are frustrated with high gas prices and have no control over how much they pay at the pump," added London. "We are making a clear statement that consumers can pay less for gas AND have choices of where to buy it."
By joining Carclub.com, former Priceline customers will now have a choice of more than 110,000 major and independent gas stations nationwide and receive a guaranteed ten percent discount thru Dec. 31, 2000, and at least five percent thereafter. Beginning this week, the carclub.com Web site will highlight this special invitation and provide information for Priceline members.
The card is available at www.carclub.com or by calling 1-800/CARCLUB. Carclub.com is making the ten percent gas discount available for the rest of the year to the first 250,000 consumers who join Carclub.com. It is a stored value card that can be prepaid and refilled by telephone or online. At the pump it works just like a credit card.
