Verizon Wireless Demonstrates Commitment To Driver Safety Through Nearly 900 Percent Increase in Headset SalesGREENVILLE, S.C., Oct. 31 The Carolinas Region of Verizon Wireless announced today a nearly 900 percent increase in sales of headset units from January - August 2000 as compared to the same time period in 1999. During the eight month period, 1,154 headsets were sold in 1999 and 11,401 headsets were sold in 2000. This increase can be attributed to Verizon Wireless' commitment to safety, particularly as it relates to consumer education. Verizon Wireless' sales force has been trained to encourage customers to utilize hands-free technology to make the use of wireless phones while driving easier and, ultimately, safer. "Verizon Wireless has made a concerted effort to educate our consumers on the importance of utilizing hands-free wireless technology while driving," said Jerry Fountain, Verizon Wireless' regional president - Carolinas. "I'm proud that our sales record clearly demonstrates the emphasis we have placed on doing our part to improve driver safety." In keeping with Verizon Wireless' commitment to drivers' safety, the company also gave away 2,164 headsets during its recent Customer Appreciation Week in the Carolinas Region. Each customer who activated a new line of service during Customer Appreciation Week received a headset.
