Motorola and Jaguar Combine the Art of Performance With the Joy of Convenience
New Timeport(TM) Digital Phone System Helps Keep Jaguar Drivers in Command,
                            In Control and in Touch

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Nov. 6 It's not easy to top yourself.
But Motorola and Jaguar Cars have done just that by teaming up to
introduce an embedded Motorola digital phone system available on all 2001 MY
Jaguar vehicles. Featuring a micro-browser and color display in a multi-band
phone, the Timeport phone provides the simplicity, portability, great audio
quality and advanced electronics that drivers expect -- plus new capabilities
to keep drivers more in control and in touch than ever. The new phone
exemplifies the essence of the Jaguar difference through deep integration into
the controls, displays and audio systems that enhance the experience of
communicating while in the car.
Motorola's Timeport phone, an integrated multi-band, multi-network phone
system, is compatible with the major U.S. CDMA and TDMA cellular carriers'
calling plans. Jaguar owners will now be able to choose from many of the most
competitive cellular rate plans available, including those that offer no
roaming, no long-distance calling plans. The CDMA version of the Timeport
offering comes complete with a micro-browser that allows drivers to tap into
the Internet for information on stocks, news, sports, weather and travel.
"Motorola's Timeport phone is an example of some of the best design,
engineering and state-of-the-art technology available in the industry today,"
said Gary Temple, vice president Customer Care, Jaguar Cars North America.
"Together, Motorola and Jaguar can offer drivers the perfect blend of flawless
integration, hands-free convenience and superb performance."
Motorola's Timeport phone has been integrated into the Jaguar vehicle,
offering several features through the radio display. On Jaguar's S-TYPE, for
example, voice-activated controls, initiated by the driver pressing a button
on the steering wheel hub, allows drivers to use simple verbal commands such
as "dial nametag" then "call Bob" to dial numbers or to simply speak the
number. For example: "dial 1-888-555-2000."
Integration of the Timeport phone into the Jaguar vehicle also will allow
users the hands-free capability of sending/receiving calls while using the
steering wheel controls or through controls on the radio system.
Additionally, an integrated microphone, discreetly mounted near the side sun
visor, will provide users with clear, hands-free conversations.
As an added convenience feature, the Timeport phone works with the
vehicle's audio system, automatically muting the AM/FM radio or pausing the
cassette or CD player until any in-coming or out-going calls are completed.
The Timeport phone has the capability to store up to 99 contact names and
phone numbers in its electronic phonebook. This phonebook can also be
downloaded from the phone for use in the vehicle's audio system display via
Timeport's memory synchronization feature. The Timeport portable handset
offers users many conveniences such as caller ID, which shows the name and/or
phone number of all incoming calls. Additionally, the short message service
displays brief text messages, similar to those viewed on a pager.
Jaguar's S-TYPE available Telematics system, "Jaguar Assist" has been
upgraded to support the Motorola Timeport phone. Jaguar Assist provides
drivers with direct access to roadside assistance and emergency services. The
security of nationwide roadside assistance is never more than a push button
away, and drivers never need to leave the comfort and safety of their own car
to call for assistance with this full-featured Telematics service.
"Motorola and Jaguar are committed to improving driver performance and
convenience by providing drivers with a state-of-the-art communications
system," said Marios Zenios, corporate vice president and general manager,
Motorola Telematics Communications Group. "The cutting-edge features and
functionality of the Timeport phone are the perfect complement to the
sophisticated Jaguar vehicles."
The Timeport phone is available now for CDMA or TDMA (Time Division
Multiple Access) service on all model year 2001 Jaguar vehicles. In addition,
the Timeport phone is compatible with Jaguar vehicles dating back to
model-year 1998. Information on compatibility is available through Jaguar
dealers.
The Timeport phone is an example of the DigitalDNA technology that
Motorola incorporates into all of its products. DigitalDNA is chips, systems
and ideas that help smart companies create smart products.
