Symyx Technologies and ABB Announce Collaboration for Environmentally Improved Automotive Fuels

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--Dec. 4, 2000--Symyx Technologies, Inc. and ABB Lummus Global today announced that they have entered into a research, development and licensing agreement for the discovery of improved catalysts for automotive fuels. These catalysts would lower sulfur levels in such fuels to meet tightening emission standards worldwide.
Under the terms of the agreement, ABB is funding Symyx' discovery efforts. Symyx and ABB plan to share royalties on any products commercialized under this agreement.
"We believe that technologies developed by Symyx will help us significantly speed the development of improved catalysis to enable refineries to meet lower sulfur specifications and help improve air quality," stated Frits Dautzenburg, vice president, ABB Lummus Global.
"We are pleased to apply our technologies to address pressing environmental concerns," said Steve Goldby, chairman and chief executive officer of Symyx. "ABB is a leading provider of technology to the petroleum industry, and our collaboration extends our efforts into this significant marketplace."
