1970 FORD pick-up truck compression
Mike,
I have a 1970 FORD pick-up truck with a 360 engine. Which have served me
faithfully for years; all at once trouble started. We tried desperately to
start the engine, but with no luck. After using all mechanical skill I
had, I gave up. So I decided to check the compression in the cylinders
and found that the compressions was around 80-90 lbs....my question is
...will this low compression keep the engine from starting?...I've put
in new plugs, new wiring, new coil and condenser and the bad boy still
will not start. what's wrong?
You don't state if you have fire at the plugs and if you have fuel at
the carb. Your compression is low and indicates that your rings are worn
out. There is a chance that due to all the miles your timing chain has
worn out and jumped a tooth this would cause low compression and no
start. You compression when the engine is warmed up will be higher and
more accurate.
