transmission problem
Subject: '88 Ford Mustang LX

I hope you can help me. My future mother-in-law has an '88 Ford Mustang LX and she feels that her transmission is giving out and would like me to replace it. The only thing is I am not sure if they used C4s or C6s. It has been below zero lately and I am not looking forward to this job. Hope you can help. Thank You

Keith, 1988 Mustangs had two automatic transmissions. 1. 4cyl 2.3 used a
unit A4LD this is an overdrive 4 speed unit. 2. 8cyl 5.0 used a unit AOT
this also is a 4speed overdrive. I would service the transmission and
also make sure the engine is running warm enough to allow the
transmission to shift properly as all the late models are computer
controlled.
