Arciero-Wells/MCI Racing - Trackside Report
Saturday, April 5, 1997
Sunbelt IndyCarnival Australia
Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

Today was the second day of on-track activity for the IndyCarnival Australia event. Driving the MCI Toyota, Papis qualified 22nd of a field of 28 drivers with a lap time of 1:39.927 on the 2.795 Surfer's Paradise street circuit. In the earlier morning practice his time was much slower, 1:43.343, because of limited track time due to mechanical difficulties.

"This is the first session we have run this weekend where we haven't had any problems," said Papis about the qualifying session. "We improved the car set-up and our position on the grid. I owe a lot of thanks to the Arciero-Wells mechanics for the tremendous job they did with all the engine changes. I am with them 100 percent. I hope their hard work will result in a strong finish in the race tomorrow."

The 65-lap IndyCarnival Australia race starts locally at 2:00 p.m. (Saturday, April 4 at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time.) In addition to being broadcast live on channel ten in Australia, the race will be shown tape delayed on ABC Sports on Sunday, April 5. Please check your local listings for exact times.
