New for this year is an acceleration test which will take place at night in the centre of Granada. Fought out over a distance of 300 metres, competitors will start in pairs side-by-side, drag-racing style! While maintaining the FIA priority drivers' starting list, the acceleration test will serve to decide the start order for the following day's leg.

Thousands of spectators were present for this very unusual prologue. Motorcycles, olé, the spaniard Jordi Arcarons, best time at 11"842 just in front of his compatriote Gallardo, to the joy of the public.
The rain spared the motorcycles but not the cars,
at their turn it poured. The Mitsubishi of Shinozuka
and Saby stayed in front of the original buggy of
Jean Louis Schlesser and the Citroen of Wambergue.
The rain has intensified through the evening,
as a result tomorrows special of 75km has been cancelled.
The small special of 4km will be fought out on the military
grounds of Armilla.
Tomorrow evening the competitors are off to Malaga and an evening
embarkment for Africa.
