French motorcyclist Jean-Pierre Leduc was killed during the second stage of the Dakar-Agades-Dakar Rally on Sunday, organisers said.
Leduc, 45, who was taking part in the rally for the first time, fell from his KTM machine after 247 kms in the 505-km stage between Toumbacounda and Kayes, in Mali, and died on the spot.
"Doctors reached him 20 minutes after the fall but nothing could be done,'' a spokeswoman said.
She added that Leduc, who was married with a child, apparently fell while riding on his own.
He was the 34th person to die in the rally since it was launched in 1979.
