Select Edition Makes Jaguar Luxury an Affordable Reality

During the last year and a half, the aspiration to Jaguar ownership has become a reality for thousands of drivers through programs for pre-owned automobiles called Jaguar Selection Edition in the United States and Select Series in Canada. The availability of top-quality

pre-owned Jaguars, rigorously inspected and backed by a factory warranty, has made owners of admirers by removing many of the risks associated with a private used-car purchase.

The Select Edition and Select Series programs are also key elements in Jaguar's ongoing customer care commitment, reinforcing the brand's quality image and demonstrating the growing confidence that has come with the marque's improved reputation for reliability. The assurance that Jaguar will stand behind the integrity of the Select Edition or Select Series car through the years of ownership adds fiscal soundness to the emotional appeal of investing in a Jaguar.

"Whether they purchase their car new or used, we want Jaguar buyers to take part in the full Jaguar ownership experience," said Michael H. Dale, president of Jaguar Cars North America. "That means first-class customer care at an authorized Jaguar dealership and the peace of mind that comes with an extensive factory-backed warranty. Once they experience the absolute pleasure that comes with driving these magnificent cars, we're certain they will be loyal customers for a long time."

The growth of used-car marketing -- even spawning chains of dedicated superstores -- has been widely reported by the media, and Jaguar dealers are participating in this sales boom.

Select Edition/Select Series Jaguars are sold at approximately 90 percent of the 133 Jaguar dealers in the United States and all 19 Canadian dealers. Lease plans are also available.

"This program is a terrific opportunity for buyers, offering warranted Jaguars for about the same price as many entry-level luxury models," Dale said. "Sales of pre-owned Jaguars have proved a great success story for our dealers, too. In the three quarters of 1996, they sold nearly as many pre-owned cars as new, and some 60 percent were certified through Select Edition or Select Series."

To be eligible for Select Edition/Select Series designation, a Jaguar must meet exacting qualifications. The car must be fewer than four years old since first sold and have been driven less than 50,000 miles or 80,000 kilometers. Then each vehicle must pass a 120-point check of technical and cosmetic condition, including the completion of a Certification Report by a factory-trained technician. This comprehensive inspection requires checking everything from the safety belt inertia locks to the specific gravity of the engine coolant.

Warranty coverage is comprehensive. First, the balance of the Jaguar new-car limited warranty is in effect until the car reaches the four-year/50,000-mile/80,000-kilometer mark. At that point, the Select Edition/Select Series Premium Warranty takes over until the car is five years old or has traveled 62,000 miles or 100,000 kilometers.

That's not the end -- the powertrain limited warranty remains in place until this Select Edition/Select Series Jaguar reaches six years of age or 75,000 miles/120,000 kilometers. Roadside Assistance, including 24-hour emergency service, towing, trip routing and limited trip-interruption benefits, extends to the six-year/75,000-mile/120,000-kilometer limit.
