Land Rover For 1998 |

It's time for Land Rover's 50th anniversary. The first Land Rover made its debut at the Amsterdam Motor Show on April 30, 1948. It had 4-wheel drive and a body made of lightweight aluminum, features of every Land Rover product ever since. The 1998 Land Rover models, Discovery and Range Rover, are just as off-road capable as the original Land Rover, and considerably more luxurious.
Discovery
The Discovery has proved to be a most successful product for Land Rover. Competing in the heart of the sport-utility field, it has introduced a record number of people to Land Rover ownership. For 1998, two trim levels are offered. Both are extremely well-equipped, with heated, 8-way power adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, dual sunroofs, and more as standard equipment. Both the LE and LSE have new colors and interior and exterior trim this year, with the LSE being somewhat more upscale.
All 1998 Discovery models are powered by a 182-horsepower 4.0-liter V8 engine, with a 4-speed ZF automatic transmission, and 4- wheel drive with a locking center differential.
Range Rover
The Range Rover was the first upscale sport-utility vehicle, and continues to evolve. Two models are offered this year. The 4.0 SE has a 4.0-liter, 190-horsepower V8 engine. The premium 4.6 HSE uses a 4.6-liter, 225-horsepower V8. Both have all of the luxury appointments of any comparably-priced luxury sedan plus Land Rover serious off- road capability and 4-wheel drive. New exterior colors, interior trim, and an upgraded sound system are new for 1998.
