Nissan For 1999 |

Nissan has now celebrated its 40th anniversary in the U. S. The majority of Nissan cars and trucks sold in this country are made here, at plants in Tennessee and Ohio. The company's three-sedan strategy continues, with the Altima, Sentra, and Maxima. The Frontier pickup lines expands for 1999, with V6 power available, and an all- new second-generation Quest minivan debuts.
Quest
The Quest has given Nissan a presence in the minivan class since its introduction in the 1993 model year, but six years is an eternity in today's automotive world. So, enter the second-generation Quest, designed to expand on the original's car-like comfort and minivan versatility with increased room, a larger, more powerful engine, and a standard driver's-side sliding passenger door.
Styled in Southern California, the new Quest comes in three trim levels. All feature a 3.3-liter, 170-hp overhead-cam V6, four- speed automatic transmission, and anti-lock brakes. All levels are very well-equipped, with plenty of flexibility in seating arrangement. Even the GXE has power doors and windows, remote keyless entry, and air conditioning. The sporty SE has a special suspension and instrument package, and the luxury-oriented GLE features power-adjustable leather seats and other amenities. Optional on all is the multi- adjustable "Quest Smart Shelf", which can create separate compartments for items like grocery bags, strollers, and boxes.
Frontier
New last year, the Frontier compact pickup line has not been left alone for 1999. A 170-hp, 3.3-liter V6 is available in four-wheel- drive "King Cab" extended-cab models, and all Frontiers have minor interior and exterior trim enhancements.
The new V6 is designed for hauling, towing, and off-road capability, and is available with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4-liter, 143-hp four-cylinder engine continues to power two-wheel-drive Frontiers in both regular cab or King Cab body styles.
If the King Cab isn't roomy enough, Nissan has announced that a four-door version of the Frontier will be offered, most likely next year. Unlike existing multi-door compact pickups, it will have four real, forward-hinged doors.
Maxima
Nissan's flagship sedan continues into 1999 with minor interior, exterior, and mechanical changes.
Altima
New last year, the compact Altima sedan has some minor equipment and color differences this year.
Sentra
Nissan's smallest sedan gets a facelift for 1999, with a new grille, headlights, and front bumper fascia. Standard equipment levels and option packages have been rearranged, and three trim levels are now offered.
