Cadillac

Cadillac For 2001

By Carey Russ

Advanced technology highlights Cadillac's car lineup this year, with the " Infotainment with Bose Audio" system, which integrates voice control technology with email and navigation systems, offered in the Seville STS and DeVille DHS and DTS models. Performance hasn't been forgotten, with a new sport package available for the STS. And then there is the second-generation Escalade SUV, which debuts as a 2002 model early in 2001. The small Catera has only minor revisions, and the Eldorado coupe is now built in a new plant.

Escalade
The completely-redesigned second-generation Escalade sport utility vehicle will debut shortly. It embodies Cadillac's "Art and Science" philosophy, being the first Cadillac displaying the angular, high-tech look of the company's future, and featuring new, more-powerful V8 engines. Two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models will be offered, as will Cadillac technologies including a road-sensing suspension and the "Stabilitrak" stability control system.

Seville
A limited number of specially-modified Sevilles, dubbed "STSi," served as pace cars for the 2000 Le Mans 24-hour endurance race. Some of their character has rubbed off on the 2001 STS, with a new sport package with upgraded wheels and tires and other suspension modifications, and convenience and luxury features including the infotainment system. The Seville SLS continues with suspension revisions for improved responsiveness.

DeVille
The latest DeVille was new last year. DeVille and DHS models are offered with six-passenger seating; the sportier DTS is designed for five. For its second year, the infotainment system is the major new feature.

Catera A Sport model of Cadillac's German-built Catera sedan was introduced in the middle of last year, and continues fro 2001. Both it and the regular Catera have vented rear brake discs, new headlamps and "Solar Reflect," a protective coating that reduces interior temperature.

Eldorado
After being built at the Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Center for the past 15 years, Eldorado production has been moved to the Lansing Craft Center in Lansing, Michigan.
