Chevrolet Cars and Trucks For 2001

By Carey Russ

On the car side, Chevrolet has a comprehensive lineup of sedans and coupes. And then there's the Corvette. 2001 gets off to a fast start with the quickest production Corvette yet made, the Z06. Other Corvette models haven't been forgotten, and the Camaro gets a performance boost as well. The Impala, Monte Carlo, and Malibu have significant enhancements. The Cavalier and Prizm continue to provide affordable transportation.

Corvette
Development of the fifth-generation Corvette continues with the introduction of the Z06, offering 385 horsepower from its 5.7-liter LS6 V8. The fastest-accelerating Corvette so far, it supplants the previous Hardtop model, and is available only in the notchback Hardtop body style. A special high-performance suspension and tires ensure impressive cornering and stopping abilities. Coupe and Convertible models haven't been left alone, with modifications to their LS1 V8 engines for increased horsepower and torque, especially at lower engine speeds.

Camaro
Especially in Z28 trim, the Camaro is one of the last muscle cars. And there's more muscle this year, with the Z28's LS1 V8 horsepower output increased to 310. If that's not enough, the SS continues to be available, now with 325 horses. The basic V6 Camaro's 200-hp 3.8-liter V6 offers plenty of performance, too. All 2001 Camaros feature retuned shock absorbers for improved and quieter ride and handling.

Monte Carlo
The Monte Carlo coupe enters its sophomore year with new "Sport Appearance" packages for both LS and SS models and upgraded standard equipment levels.

Impala
Chevy's flagship sedan was all-new last year. The "OnStar" security and telematics system is now standard on the LS model, and available for the base level.

Malibu
The import-fighter of the Chevrolet lineup, the Malibu, gets freshened styling and new convenience features.
