Chrysler

Chrysler For 2001

By Carey Russ

The Chrysler lineup has expanded for 2001, with the introduction of the newest generation of Sebring sedan, coupe, and convertible. The one-time Plymouth Voyager minivan is now badged Chrysler, and joins the Town & Country. The innovative PT Cruiser was introduced in mid-2000. The LHS luxury sedan and 300 sport-luxury sedan get new options, including genuine walnut trim. It's hard to believe, but the Concorde sedan, redesigned for 1998, is the oldest vehicle in the Chrysler lineup.

Sebring sedan, coupe, and convertible
Can't find the Cirrus in the Chrysler lineup? Look under "Sebring," as it's now called the Sebring sedan. And it's a completely redesigned car as well, with a sleek look inspired by the Concorde sedan for a stronger Chrysler family identity. A more rigid chassis and revised suspension increase comfort and handling while new 2.4-liter four-cylinder and 2.7-liter V6 engines give a performance boost. Standard equipment levels are high.

With minor variations, the new look is also shared by the Sebring coupe and convertible. The convertible also uses the 2.7-liter V6. Chassis and suspension upgrades improve the ride comfort and handling abilities, and automatic top operation has been made easier. The coupe keeps the useful roominess of the earlier Sebring coupe, but offers improved ride and handling and more power from new 2.4-liter four-cylinder or 3.0-liter V6 engines.

Minivans
With the imminent demise of the Plymouth brand, the Voyager becomes the entry-level Chrysler minivan for 2001. Both it and the premium Town & Country are all-new this year, and have features found nowhere else, including a power-operated liftgate, removable center console, and three-zone climate-control system. Voyagers are standard-wheelbase vehicles, while all Town & Country models have an extended wheelbase.

PT Cruiser
It's no longer the newest vehicle in Chrysler showrooms, but the PT Cruiser is still turning heads. Although its nostalgic styling gets attention, it has plenty of substance. There is an amazing amount of interior space (and style), with the sort of reconfigurability normally associated with a minivan or sport-utility.
