Jaguar

Jaguar For 2001

By Carey Russ

"Performance" is the word at Jaguar for the 2001 model year, with the introduction of the XKR Silverstone and R Performance features available on other XK, XJ, and S-Type models.

XK
Jaguar's sleek XK sports car line continues to grow, with the debut of the XKR Silverstone. Like other XK models, the Silverstone is offered in both coupe and convertible form. Unlike the other XKs, Silverstone production is limited, with only 250 examples allotted for the U.S. market. It adds 20-inch modular BBS alloy wheels and ultra-low profile Pirelli P Zero tires, with stopping power supplied by huge cross-drilled, vented Brembo brakes with four-piston aluminum calipers. Although it uses the same supercharged 370-hp 4.0-liter V8 engine as the XKR, special interior and exterior trim further differentiates the Silverstone from other XKRs and XK8s. The wheels and brakes will be available on other XK models.

The regular XKR and XK8 versions have slightly revised styling and increased levels of standard equipment.

XJ
A full range of elegant and luxurious XJ sedans is offered, with standard and long-wheelbase models. All have higher levels of standard equipment for 2001. The XJ line includes two 370-horsepower supercharged models, the XJR and long-wheelbase Vanden Plas Supercharged.

S-Type
The S-Type brought Jaguar to the heart of the luxury car marketplace when it was introduced a couple of years ago, and helped double Jaguar sales. S-Types are offered with 4.0-liter V8 or 3.0-liter V6 engines. Minor exterior trim changes and new colors highlight 2001 models.
