Lincoln

Lincoln For 2001

By Carey Russ

Model year 2001 appears quiet at Lincoln, but watch out for the 2002 Blackwood, a segment-breaking new type of luxury vehicle that will debut in mid-2001. Most importantly for customer satisfaction and peace of mind, all 2001 Lincoln feature the new "Complimentary Maintenance Program" that provides no-charge regular maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles of ownership.

Blackwood
The Blackwood started life as a concept vehicle two years ago, and will be on the street in mid-2001. It is yet another segment-breaker, with room for four passengers in leather-and-wood comfort and a box trunk with a power-operated tonneau cover. It combines the best features of a luxury car, sport-utility, and pickup truck. Think of the Blackwood as a larger, upscale cousin to the Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Its only optional luxury feature is a satellite navigation system. Four bucket seats fit in a space designed for six passengers, ensuring first-class room and comfort. A 300-hp 5.4-liter V8 provides enough power to tow 8,700 lbs.

LS
Lincoln really is changing. "Lincoln" and "sports sedan" are no longer contradictory, thanks to the LS. Introduced last year, it continues for its sophomore year with minor interior changes and new colors. Two models are offered, one with a 210-hp 3.0-liter V6 and one with a 252-hp 3.9-liter V8. V6 models with the V6 may be equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox made by German specialist manufacturer Getrag.

Navigator
Auxiliary climate control is now standard in all models of the luxurious Navigator sport-utility.

Town Car
The full-size, rear-wheel drive Town Car is a cornerstone of the Lincoln line. For 2001, power-adjustable gas and brake pedals are standard and its V8 engine has 20 more horsepower.

Continental
The mid-size, front-wheel drive Continental is unchanged for 2001.
