Volvo For 2001 |

Volvo got 2001 off to an early start with the introduction of the newest-generation V70 wagon in mid-2000. The V70 was then joined by the Cross-Country crossover vehicle. The latest mid-size sedan, now called the S60, just debuted, and the small S40 sedan and V40 wagon have significant updates. It may be hard to believe, but the C70 coupe is now the oldest Volvo. The C70 coupe and convertible, and the S80 luxury sedan are unchanged for 2001.
S60
"No more boxes" seems to be the new styling motto at Volvo, and no vehicle shows it as much as the new S60. It replaces the old S70, and is built on the same platform as the V70 and S80. It's slightly shorter, wider, and taller than the S70, with a longer wheelbase. Despite the sleek, coupe-like styling, there is real room for five people inside, and plenty of trunk space. And, of course, all of the passive and active safety features expected in a Volvo. Three trim levels are offered, all with five-cylinder engines. The entry-level model has a naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter, 168-hp engine, while the volume-model S60 2.4T uses a 2.4-liter light-pressure turbo engine with 197 horsepower. The S60 T5 combines safety with serious performance thanks to a 247-hp 2.3-liter high-pressure turbo engine and an available sport suspension.
V70 and Cross-Country
Volvo is best-known for wagons, and the 2001 V70 will only improve that reputation. Only the name is shared with its predecessor, as it's built on the same modern platform as the S80 luxury sedan. Available features of the roomy and versatile interior include a rear-facing third-row seat, an integrated grocery carrier, and even a built-in picnic table. The latest Cross-Country adds all-road versatility to the basic V70 program, with increased ground clearance - more than is found in many SUVs - and all-wheel drive. The V70 is offered in 2.4T trim with the 2.4-liter, 197-hp light-pressure turbo engine and as a T5 with the 247-hp 2.3-liter high-pressure turbo motor. The Cross-Country is available only with the light-pressure turbo engine.
Other Volvos
Although they were only introduced in to this country last year, the S40 sedan and V40 wagon have freshened styling, engine and suspension enhancements, and a new five-speed automatic transmission for 2001. The S80 luxury sedan and C70 coupe and convertible have no major changes for 2001.
