Car of the Week - June 25, 2001

2001 Subaru Legacy GT

When you think Subaru, you think all-wheel-drive (AWD) - a transmission that "drives all four wheels all the time,"unlike other entry-level luxury sedans whose AWD systems turn on the non-powered wheels only when the others lose traction. The 2001 Subaru Legacy GT excels in the turns, smoothing curvy roads with nice tight handling. Add to that a fully independent, sport-tuned suspension, and you're ready for driving fun. This smooth rider is powered by a Phase II 2.5-liter, 16-valve, 165-horsepower boxer engine under the hood creating 166 foot-pounds of torque @ 4,000 rpm.

The interior is roomy and stylish - the GT sedan gets a power moonroof, a six-way power driver's seat, limited-slip rear differential, multi-reflector halogen fog lights, an in-glass antenna, a hidden tailpipe, standard breakaway mirrors and front and rear cupholders. Everyone who rode in this sedan enjoyed it - often for many different reasons, utility, style, and ride. The bottom line appears to be that the Legacy is a comfortable and lively Car For All Seasons.
