Changes to Talladega Schedule for 1998

10 October 1997

TALLADEGA, AL -- In a press conference at Talladega Superspeedway, Grant Lynch - president of the speedway, announced that there was going to be a sponsor switch for 1998.

The DieHard 500, traditionally the second event here at Talladega, will become the spring event effective in 1998. This action move's the Winston 500 to October 11th and ties in with a new program that Winston will have in 1998.

(please see separate story - Winston No Bull 5)

There is also a shift in TV network coverage when ABC will pick up the DieHard 500 for the next 3 years. This knocks CBS out of the coverage business here at Talladega. The Winston 500 will be covered by ESPN. Both deals are good for three years. No details were release as to what the TV packages were worth.

Also as part of the ceremony Talladega Superspeedway honored Ken Squier's 10 years of broadcast excellence by presenting him with a commemorative trophy similar in design as the DieHard 500 race winners trophy.
