Auto Loss

Traffic Citations/Tickets
  • I was in an automobile accident and received a traffic citation. Will the insurance company represent me for my ticket?
No. Most companies will defend you if you are sued as the result of an auto accident and the loss is covered under your policy, but we will not provide representation to contest a moving violation received as a result of an accident.

Deductible
  • I was not at fault for the accident. Why do I have to pay a deductible?
Your insurance contract with the insurance company may require you to pay a deductible for certain coverages regardless of fault for an accident. If the facts of the loss and their investigation indicate that there is a chance of recovery from a responsible party, the company will attempt to recover the money we paid for your damages, including the deductible you paid. If you prefer, you always have the option of attempting to recover the deductible on your own.

  • What factors affect the recovery of my deductible, and how long will it take to receive my deductible back?
The factors that affect the recovery of your deductible include, but are not limited to, who was at fault in the accident, whether the responsible party has insurance, and whether the facts reported by the involved parties differ. The laws that relate to determination of fault also affect the amount of your deductible recovery. The claim handler assigned to your claim will investigate the loss and determine who was at fault. If the facts of the loss and their investigation indicate that there is a likelihood of recovery, most companies will attempt to recover the money they paid for your damages, including the deductible you paid. The process may be lengthy but they are committed to resolving this issue for you at the earliest possible opportunity. Most insurance companies, in fact, have offices dedicated solely to the recovery of money from responsible parties. If you prefer, you always have the option of attempting 660 recover the deductible on your own.

  • Will my insurance company investigate possible fraud?
Yes. Fraud is a growing problem that nationwide is estimated to cost insurance companies billions of dollars each year. Most insurers, committed to combat and deter fraud, are staffed with Special Investigation Units (SlUs). their SlUs are specially trained to detect and investigate suspicious claims that may be fraudulent.

  • How can I help with possible faud investigations?
If you are aware of possible insurance fraud, contact your agent or the claim adjuster handling the loss. Or, if you wish to remain anonymous, report your suspicions to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) hotline by calling 1-888-TEL-NICB.

Personal Property Damage
  • I had personal belongings inside my vehicle that were damaged in the accident. Will my auto policy cover these items?
It is possible that clothing and personal luggage, including its contents, will be covered up to a limited amount as stipulated in your Automobile Policy. If you believe your damage exceeds this amount, you can also file a claim for the damage under your homeowners or other applicable policy. Your Claim Adjuster will be able to explain the coverage, if any, available to you.

Police Report
  • Do I need to file a police report?
Any time you sustain a loss, you should file a report with the police department. Police reports are required by our policies on many types of losses, so it is a good idea to have a permanent record of the incident with the police.

Rental Car Coverage
  • Why Is rental reinbursement not included in some collision coverage?
Rental reimbursement coverage is offered separately from collision coverage. This allows you to choose the coverage that fits your needs, and it also helps keep down the cost of insurance premiums for customers who want to purchase collision coverage but don't need rental reimbursement coverage.
